eBay environment check

eBay weighs things differently from other platforms: an IP's history matters most, and the quality of the exit itself comes second. This checks whether your exit IP carries baggage.

Check your eBay environment

We check what eBay can see of your environment: whether the exit IP is residential or datacenter, whether it carries proxy flags or blocklist records, whether its country matches your account, whether your real IP leaks through WebRTC or IPv6, and whether your system time zone and language contradict the exit. Takes about 5–10 seconds.

  • Exit IP & reputation
  • Account country match
  • Real-IP leaks
  • Device region consistency
Account registration country
Sellers pick where the account is registered (mainland China or Hong Kong entities pick that region): on the seller side eBay expects the registration country, payout account country and selling site to line up, not a sign-in IP in the site's country. Buyers can browse every site largely without restriction and may skip this.
No sign-in and no access to your platform account. IP intelligence and leak probes need network requests; browser settings are read locally

eBay environment requirements at a glance

eBay's enforcement centers on IP history and account linking: an address once used by a banned seller drags down whoever comes next. From outside we can check whether the exit has blocklist or abuse records, whether it's residential or datacenter, whether it carries proxy flags, whether the IP's country matches the account's registration country, and whether your real IP leaks through WebRTC or IPv6. Device fingerprints, payment and payout methods, addresses and historical cookies, the linking evidence, live inside eBay where no outside tool can see.

  • Time zone consistency isn't part of eBay's profile; this page shows it as a hint only and doesn't score it.
  • Scoring weights on this page: Reputation 30, IP type 26, Account country match 18, Leak check 14, Anonymity flags 12.
  • Reputation is the heaviest signal in eBay's profile, more than on any of the other seven platforms: an address's history follows the address.
  • Cross-site browsing is largely unrestricted, and opening the German site from a US IP is normal; country consistency is mainly a seller-side requirement.
  • Mainland China or Hong Kong sellers signing in from where they're registered is normal; there's no need to switch to an IP in the site's country.
  • Datacenter ranges share reputation across the whole range, so trouble on another account in the range can spill over to you.
  • Linking evidence (device fingerprints, payment and payout methods, addresses, historical cookies) lives inside eBay and can't be checked here.

How the score works

The score only covers what eBay can observe from outside on this visit, out of 100, weighted as below; unmeasured items are left out of the total, and below 85% coverage the verdict is never a pass.

DimensionWhat we checkWhy it mattersWeight
ReputationAbuse reports and DNSBL blocklist entries (whichever is worse)Reputation follows the address; records left by previous users count against you too30

Anonymity flagsWhether the exit is flagged as a VPN, proxy, residential proxy or ToreBay can look up publicly flagged addresses directly in commercial databases12

The weights summarize public industry experience; they are not platform documentation, and no platform publishes its risk rules. When the account country and exit differ but are both in the EU, or one is mainland China and the other Hong Kong, they earn half marks.

What eBay actually weighs

What follows is common industry observation, not published risk-control documentation. eBay does not disclose how it decides, and any claim to know the exact rules deserves scepticism.

Reputation and linking, not timezone and language

This page's weight profile has no time zone consistency item, and that's deliberate. A content platform like TikTok needs to know which market you're in, so contradictions in time zone and language are fatal there; eBay cares more about what this IP has done before, whether it's a shared anonymizing exit, and which accounts this environment resembles.

In practice: an environment with perfectly aligned timezone and language that sits on a datacenter IP with abuse records might lose only a little on TikTok, and will drop a whole band here.

Linking suspensions are the common failure

When running multiple accounts, the most common surprise on eBay is a new account swept up with an old one. The inputs are understood to include sign-in IP, device fingerprint, payment and payout methods, shipping addresses, and historic cookies — any single overlap can be enough.

Which means isolation has to be complete. Separating the IP while reusing the same device, or the reverse, leaves a thread that still connects them.

What this check cannot see

The most important inputs to linking detection — account history, cookie associations, payment methods, payout accounts, shipping addresses — all live inside the platform and cannot be observed from outside. This is the gap eBay and Amazon share, and the reason both pages carry a layer of caveat that the TikTok page does not.

So a pass here means one thing: nothing wrong at the environment layer. It cannot tell you whether the account itself is safe, and it should not be your only input before opening a store.

Why site match carries less weight on eBay

eBay's country sites share one catalogue system, and cross-site browsing and cross-border buying are common, so opening the German site from a US IP is perfectly normal. That differs from Shopee and Lazada, whose storefronts are separate, which is why this item carries only 18 points here.

The seller side is far stricter: registration country, the payout account's country and the selling site need to agree. That requirement comes from financial compliance rather than access control, and it is fixed differently — changing your exit does not solve a payout account registered in the wrong country.

eBay account countries and storefronts

Sellers pick where the account is registered (mainland China or Hong Kong entities pick that region): on the seller side eBay expects the registration country, payout account country and selling site to line up, not a sign-in IP in the site's country. Buyers can browse every site largely without restriction and may skip this.

What this checks, and what it cannot

Every signal above is actually measured

Scored signals use data obtained during this run: the IP profile, comparison of IP and browser time zones, a WebRTC probe, and whether your IPv4 and IPv6 exits are in different countries. Failed requests, missing information and blocked probes are marked unmeasured rather than treated as confirmed types or full marks, and the account-country item is excluded when no country is selected.

One thing we do NOT measure, and will not pretend to

The question that matters most when running multiple accounts — does this environment resemble my other one — cannot be answered from outside. That takes comparing against a population, or against your other environment. A single browser session can only count how many fingerprint signals it collected, and that number comes out much the same for everyone. Rather than display a near-constant in the nineties dressed up as a measurement, we say plainly that it is out of reach.

The overall disclaimer

This page checks your current network and browser environment. It does not touch, and cannot see, the state of your platform account. A clean environment is not the same as a safe account — linkage decisions also rest on history, cookies, payment methods and shipping addresses, none of which are observable from outside. Treat the result as a risk indication, not a substitute for signing in and testing on the platform itself.

eBay environment check FAQ

Why is there no timezone check on this page?

Because it isn't central to eBay's judgment. Each weight profile follows the platform's actual enforcement focus, and eBay looks more at IP history, proxy flags and account linking. The "Device region consistency" card on this page still shows whether your time zone contradicts the exit; it just isn't scored.

I switched to a new IP and still got caught by a linking suspension. Why?

Linking looks at more than the IP. Device fingerprint, payment method, payout account, shipping address and historic cookies all count, and one overlap can be enough. Changing the IP alone usually does not stop it. Note too that all of that data sits inside the platform and cannot be checked here.

Are datacenter IPs completely unusable?

Not absolutely, but the cost is high. Datacenter ranges are labelled wholesale and share reputation across the block, so trouble on a neighbouring account reaches you. On eBay, where reputation carries the most weight, that effect is more pronounced than elsewhere. Sellers should rule them out.

Does a buyer's IP need to match the site's country?

Usually not. Cross-site browsing on eBay is largely unrestricted, and opening ebay.de from a US address is normal. Country consistency is mainly a seller-side requirement, and it centres on the registration and payout accounts rather than the sign-in IP alone.

Does this check log my IP?

The lookup passes through our servers, so ordinary access logs are produced. We do not sell or share query records. Browser-side checks are computed locally and not uploaded.

Environment checks for other platforms

Each platform weighs things differently, so the same environment can come out very differently from one to the next. These are the other platforms we maintain a separate weight profile for.
